Coca-Cola dome-Sasol Management contract renewed

THEBE CLINCHES FURTHER MANAGEMENT CONTRACT WITH SASOL PENSION FUND FOR COCA-COLA DOME

The Sasol Pension Fund, owners of the Coca-Cola dome in Johannesburg, has renewed the management contract for the venue with Thebe Exhibitions and Events until 2014.

Sasol Pension Fund Chief Executive Officer Robert Robinson says renewing the contract was an easy decision.

"The professional manner in which Thebe Exhibitions and Events manages the dome certainly sets a benchmark in the industry. The expert approach of Group Managing Director Carol Weaving and her team assists greatly in making this asset of the fund a very viable business proposition.”

Welcoming the renewed management contract, Weaving said customers can look forward to even further improved service at the dome, one of Gauteng’s most versatile venues.

“Shortly after concluding the initial management contract with the fund in 2004, Thebe Events landed an exclusive five-year branding rights deal for the dome with the Coca-Cola Company, Southern Africa. Part of the branding rights deal was the renaming of the venue to the Coca-Cola dome.

“Aligning oneself with the biggest international brand undoubtedly holds vast benefits. Today the dome is Southern Africa’s most definitive multi-purpose indoor entertainment arena. It offers a perfect combination of capacity and capability, hosting a variety of different events from consumer and trade exhibitions to international and local concerts to corporate banquets and launches to large conventions, as well as indoor sporting events. The success is mutually beneficial for all parties.

“With the performance of Irish pop and rock star Ronan Keating on New Year’s eve, the dome closed business for 2006 with more than half a million people visiting the venue over the year. This year is set to be even busier with some new exciting events joining our long list of successful events hosted at the venue.”

She says the dome is already in full swing to host numerous events in 2007.

“One of the biggest shows will be the start of the UK’s greatest rock and roll star and pop legend, Sir Cliff Richard’s South African tour on 3 March.”

February sees Jeremy Clarkson take centre stage along with some of the most spectacular cars on the planet on the MPH Motor show. High-octane car chases, outrageous stunts, explosive events and hilarious commentary from the team will make the show totally unique with performance car enthusiasts getting closer to the action than ever before.

The ever-popular Homemakers Expo will also be hosted in February with the world famous Il Divo operatic group performing on 1 March.

Other exhibitions include Hobby-X and Lab Africa 2007 in March, the Castrol Xtreme Auto Show in April, the Your Baby Show in May and the Wedding Expo, also in May as well as in September.

“We are committed to enhancing the needs of our customers and offering them what they want. We will grow the dome’s reputation as Gauteng’s venue of choice. Furthermore, we are committed to excel in the trust that the owners of the dome have in us and to improve their financial investment in the future,” says Weaving.
